Synthesis and characterization of 8-( diphenylphosphino)-7-methylquinoline

The phosphine ligands containing quinoline units have receievd much attention in organic photoelectric materials. In this paper,7-methylquinoline was prepared by Skraup method using m-toluidine as raw material,and then 7-methyl-8-bromoquinoline was obtained by reaction with N-bromosuccinimide( NBS).Then 7-methyl-8-bromoquinoline was reacted with n-butyllithium to get lithium reagent and then reacted with diphenylphosphine chloride to obtain the target compound 8-( diphenylphosphino)-7-methylquinoline. The structure of the target compound was characterized by NMR(1 H,31 P,13 C),Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy( FT-IR) and LC-MS TOF spectra. It provided a precursor for synthesis of luminescent metal complexes in the further step. As far as we know,this compound has been few reported. This synthetic scheme has advantages of low cost,convinent process and high yields.
