Influence of Salt on Boiling Point of Multicomponent Liquid Mixtures

The influences of some nonvolatile salt on boiling point of water_methanol_n propanol ternary liquid mixture and chloroform_acetone_methanol azeotropic mixture were determined at 100.0kPa. The experimental results indicate the prerequisite of boiling point depression for multicomponent liquid mixture is that some more volatile components must be salted out or some less volatile components must be salted in. The above conclusion, based on thermodynamical consideration, can be regarded as universal rule that governs the variation of boiling point with dissolving nonvolatile salt in multicomponent liquid mixture.
