Process and Preparation of TiC-xAl Composites by Self-propagation High-temperature Synthesis

SHS process parameters in the synthesis of TiC-xAl were analyzed theoretically and experimentally, and the variation rule of adiabatic temperature (T_(ad)) with the content of Al was obtained. In this work we prepared dense TiC-xAl cermet composites by SHS+QP method, and analyzed their composition and structure by x-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). It was deduced that pressing delay is the key to obtain dense cermet composites under the condition of other process parameters unchanged in terms of the result of density variation with the content of Al.
