XU Jing(Guangxi Normal University,Guilin 541004,China)
The stratification of urban and rural students is a popular phenomenon in Chinese society as a product of educational stratification.Although policies such as compulsory education and enrollment expansion are carried out to balance such classification recently the fact of stratification still exists. The reasons for the persistent phenomenon are analyzed with the reference of Ireland scholar's MMI hypothesis concerning the relation between education expansion and education stratification. It is claimed that the simple practice of education expansion can not solve the problem from the perspective of cultural reproduction. The essential factor is the difference of culture and economy between urban and rural areas.
