YU Bing-feng (Hengyang Normal University,Chengdu,610064,China)
Burgher school developed in order to meet citizen's need, with the development of urban economy in the late middle age.Citizens were dissatisfied with the poor and impractical knowledge which the former church school provided,so they set up and managed the new schools themselves based on their needs.Different from the church school,Burgher school taught practical skills, such as reading, writing, and calculation, which were closely connected with the citizen's daily lives. The emergence of such schools improved people's educational level, and this served as foundation for the later Renaissance and Reformation.
