OPTIMAL DESIGN WITH ORTHOGONAL REGRESSION——A Practical Method to Heighten The Efficiency of Optimal Design

If an objective function is an implicit function of design variables, the orthogonal regressive optimal design method introduced in this paper can be used to construct a quadatic polynomial to replace the implicit objective function. The application of the orthogonal table can decrease the computing times of the implicit function during constructing the polynomial, what is more, using the new objective function, much time can be saved during optimum iteration. The noteworthiness test can tell us which design variables affects the ocjective function mostly. In this way, the efficiency of optimal design can be raised greatly. An example for the comparison between the orthogonal regressive and ordinary optimal design methods is presented in this paper.
