The Awakening is a masterpiece of Kate Chopin. In this novel, the female protagonist Edna is not satisfied with her insipid family life, and she wants to get rid of various chains on women. After the original depression and confusion, she reaches the awakening and the resistance. The awakening process experiences four stages, and Edna finally chooses death to find the complete physical and mental liberation. The process is an integrated embodiment of the development of feminist consciousness.
