Research on Non-English Majors' Role Expectations for College English Teachers

The penetrating studies of English teaching and Second Language Acquisition have given rise to the Learner Autonomy Model of College English learning,and then raised the discussion of the role transition of English teachers.Based on the survey of non-English major undergraduates from several universities in Shanghai and its surrounding areas with questionnaires,this paper uses Triangulation to analyze their learning styles and expectations for the roles of College English teachers,compare the differences of teacher role expectations among students with different learning styles.Moreover,interviews are conducted to amass some students' specific points of view.Then the paper arrives at the conclusion:At present,the expectations of non-English major college students for college English teachers are still mainly based on traditional roles,but the diversification and individuation trend of the role development is looming large.College English teachers should be prepared to meet the challenges of the new era.
