SINO-SWISS COOPERATION TO TAP WITH “HSU TECHNIQUE” THE LITHIUM RESOURCE FROM THE SALT LAKES IN QINGHAI PROVINCE OF CHINA

Since the 70’s, traditional methods have failed to be in use for extracting the lithium metal from the salt lakes of Qinghai province whereas the patented “Hsu Technique” can give full play in this aspect. The method or “evaporation pumping principle” or “in situ pool evaporation” has had satisfactory application to recovering lithium from the Mg and Li rich concentrated brine of the province, as shown by both indoor and outdoor experiments. With aid of the method, the brine was concentrated from 0.7212g/L LiCl up to 45.18g/L but large amounts of byproducts such as bischofite (MgCl 2·6H 20) can be obtained as well, with constraint on how much trace elements Br, I, B, Rb, Sr and Cs are in the brine. Hsu Technique is actually enjoying lower cost, higher efficiency, workable methodology, rational technology and better protection of the ecological environment of the lakes so that it is worthy of recommend for recovering lithium resource from Qinhai’s salt lakes.
