Preparation of Transition Metal Nitride and Its Applications in Catalysis

Transition metal nitrides belong to a class of interstitial compounds, have the properties of covalence compound,ion crystal and transitional metals. The nitrides with high specific surface area from oxide precursor can be prepared through temperature-programmed reduction via topotactic reaction in ammonia or nitrogen under strict reduction conditions.Due to the alike surface properties and catalytic performances as those of noble metals Pt and Rh, they have been known as “platinum-like metal”. Furthermore,they have shown specific activity in various reactions concerning with hydrogenation, such as Fischer-Tropsch synthesis, hydrodesulfurization (HDS), hydrodenitrgenation (HDN), and ammonia synthesis or decomposition. The comprehensive studies on the transition metal nitride are of great importance in theory and for the potential applications in catalysis.
