Study on MBS Latex Coagulation by SO_2

A new method of MBS latex coagulation by SO2 as a coagulant was proposed. The effects of principal factors, such as MBS concentration, temperature, rotational rate, SO2 flowing velocity on coagulation time, distribution of particle size and bulk density of MBS powder were investigated in details, respectively. Moreover, better operation conditions were decided and designed to coagulate MBS latex by SO2 on 8 000 L scale. The results showed that the MBS resin powders took on better apparent morphology, high bulk density and narrow distribution of particle size. In addition, the properties test of PVC/MBS alloy showed that by reason of shorter plasticizing time, resist-impact performance and transparency were improved, too.
