Study on the Thermal Stability of Polycarbonate

The screening of antioxidant systems was combined with twin screw extrusion and heat vector experiment methods, then studied the effects of different antioxidant systems on the yellow index and melt flow index of materials for developing stability improvement polycarbonate(PC). Results showed that the thermal decomposition temperature of PC binder PC01-10 was competive with the compared overseas samples, but they were prone to yellowing during process because without addition antioxidant system.The complex of hindered phenol and phosphate would be great benefit to the thermal performance, resulting in great increasement of the degradation temperature, and the processing of yellowing could be inhibited effectively. The growth rate of melt mass flow rate declined after continuous repeated processing. After thermal stability improved, the resulting PC01-10 could meet the technical level of overseas grade, the 1% degradation temperature improved from 454 ℃ to 470 ℃, and the yellow index was decreased from 13.2 to4.8 as well as the MFR increased from 0.9 g/10 min to 0.3 g/10 min.
