The Application of Descriptive Geometry Model to Computer Aided Graphic Measuring, Solving and Displaying

In the areas of sheet metal, pipeline engineering and mechanical processing, there are a lot of spatial angle computation, or geometrical problems to be solved. These problems can be worked out either by graphical method or by analytical method. Each method has its advantages and disadvantages. The former can be employed simply and easily, with projective transformation of descriptive geometry but short of accuracy, while the latter both complicately, difficultly and without visual perception but with high precision. In this paper, we try to do graphic measuring, solving and displaying with descriptive geometry as a model and computer as an aid. This approach is accurate, time-saving and visible. Through graphic display, all the mistakes in the program can be checked, located and corrected at any time. This paper presents four examples to illustrate the descriptive geometry model ,which is believed to beas useful as, or even superior to mathematics in dealing with the geometric problems in 3-d space.
