Numerical calculation of viscous resistance in three different stern appendage cases

The stern appendages of a surface ship have great effect not only on the resistance,but also on the wake fraction and thrust deduction fraction.Recently,more and more researches of appendages optimization focus on the numerical method.Two optimum stern appendage cases were proposed after the analysis of the characteristics of the stern appendages of a surface ship and the objective of the optimization.Numerical calculations of the 3D viscous flow field in the model with full appendages were made in different Reynolds.An optimum twin skeg case was gained on the basis of the analysis and comparison of the resistance and the wake fraction on the propeller blade.
