Evaluation of availability for partial repairable spares with lateral transshipment

For the widely existed problem of rejection for spares during the mission,an approximate evaluation method of availability for system with transshipment is proposed.At first,multi-echelon partial-repairable spares are converted to bottom-echelon non-repairable ones by omitting repair and transportation time.Then,the number of spares equipped in multi-echelon are converted to ones equipped in bottom-echelon by analyzing the competition for spares among bottom-echelon sites.Finally,a computational model of availability is obtained based on the additive property of Gamma distribution.In actual example,a simulation model is built to verify the approximate method,and the results show that transshipment can improve availability effectively,and the approximate method owns high precision when the values of repair and transportation time is not too big or the spares are adequate.
