Biodegradation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in compost system by bacteria

Zhao Fei Liu Xiang Yang Jiangang (Department of Environmental Sciences and Engineering, Tsinghua University, Beijing 100084)  
In the research of bioremediation of PAHs-contaminated soil, the cultivated bacteria were added to a composting system to investigate its effect on the biodegradation of the three PAHs(phenenthrene,fluorene and pyrene).The results showed that the cultivated bacteria had a significant degradation effect on PAHs removal. The removal rates of phenenthrene and fluorene at the end of composting increased by 25%, and the pyrene removal rate increased by 45%.
