Effects of submerged aquatic-vegetations composition on water quality of landscape lakes of Chenshan Botanical Garden,Shanghai

Effects of restoration of submerged aquatic-vegetations on water quality of lakes in Chenshan Botanical Garden in Shanghai were investigated.Relationships among water quality parameters were analyzed by applying the correlation analysis and the principal components analysis.Results showed that chlorophyll(Chl-a),transparency(SD),and nutrients were significantly altered after the restoration of submerged aquatic-vegetations,except permanganate index(CODMn).During the study period,water quality in Chenshan Botanical Garden was significantly improved compared to the outside river.At the end of the study,Chl-a,total nitrogen(TN),total phosphorus(TP),SD and CODMn were 5.48±1.93 μg/L,1.40±0.136 mg/L,0.080±0.015 mg/L,108±20 cm and 5.50±1.26 mg/L,respectively.Correlation analysis showed that the Chl-a was positively correlated with N,P,while negatively correlated with water temperature at a 5% significance level.Principal component analysis showed that the first principal component contained nitrate,nitrite nitrogen,total phosphorus,reactive phosphorus,chlorophyll-a,water temperature,transparency,pH and other variables,and the second component included permanganate index and ammonia nitrogen and other variables.In addition,principal component analysis also showed that the TP on chlorophyll-a increased with high positive weights.The first principal component of water quality parameters can be used in the monitoring programs for ecological management of lake landscapes.
