Start-up of down-up biological aerated filter in water pretreatment

Specific to the micro-polluted raw water,the experiment of natural start-up was used to down-up biological aerated filter(D-UBAF).Under the conditions of HRT of 20~30 min,the water temperature of 15~22 ℃,the gas water ratio of 0.5,and a filtration rate of 12.5 m/h,the relationship between the change condition of the different water quality index and the growth of biomembrane was researched and analyzed to estimate the course in the D-UBAF during the process of natural start-up.The result showed that D-UBAF could be started quickly,and natural start-up was completed after 7 days in the southern summer.The average CODMn removal rate of raw water was 33%,ammonia nitrogen removal rate was 85.5% and nitrite nitrogen removal rate was 82.9%.
