Calculation of Schmid factors for slip systems in magnesium alloy under uniaxial tension and compression

Aimed at magnesium alloys under uniaxial tension and compression conditions,the Schmid factor distribution of different slip systems( the basal slip,the prismatic slip,pyramidal a and c + a slips) in the whole orientation space is calculated. Results show that in the deformation process of magnesium alloys,the schmid factors for the basal slip,the prismatic slip and pyramidal c + a slip all have a maximum value of 0. 5 in the whole orientation space; while the Schmid factor for pyramidal a slip is generally low,reaching the maximum value of only 0. 383 when θ is approximately 80° and Ψ is 70°. The calculation provides a basis for analyzing the deformation mechanisms of magnesium alloys.
