Numerical Simulation of Filled Fuel Tank Submitted High-speed Bullet Penetrated

High- speed bullet penetrate the filled tank and produce Hydrodynamic ram,cause a complete and serious damage. it is important to simulate this progress. Using ANSYS / LS- DYNA finite element software to simulate the process of the bullet penetrate fuel tank. The velocity of bullet is 900m / s,the tank is made of 4340 steel,the fuel tank is filled with 60% water and an empty tank. The simulation reproduced the generating of Hydrodynamic ram,and obtained different physical images and a variety of transient phenomena,identified the cause of the Hydrodynamic ram effect and damage mode to the fuel tank. The study show the peak pressure in the whole water area is near the incident plate,the deformation of bottom and incident plate is more serious than the outgoing and top plate.
