A Study of a Re--Mg--B Alloy for CG Cast Iron Production

Compacted/vermicular graphite cast iron was produced by a new type of compactizing agent i. e. Re--Mg--B alloy. In this kind of compactizing agent we select boron (B) as a harmful element for the nodular graphite formation to replace the harmful element titanuium (Ti). In this paper we have studied the effects of B、Re and Mg to the compactizing result. The contrastive expe- riment of some kinds of compactizing agents was carried out. It indicated that ohe Re--Mg--B alloy can produce compacted graphite cast iron successfully not tnly in the molten iron with low sulfur contents of 0. 03% or lower but also in the molten iron with high sulfur contents of 0. 06 to 0. 12%, its treatment process was easy and has a great applied value.
