Person-centered dementia care in eldercare institutions in Hunan province

Objective To assess the level and determinants of person-centered dementia care in eldercare institutions in Hunan province,and to provide reference for improving person-centered care level.Methods Twenty eldercare institutions were selected from 4 cities of Hunan province and 112 eldercare providers from these institutions were surveyed by using the Chinese version of the Personcentered Care Assessment Tool(P-CAT).Results The overall P-CAT was 45.24±10.10,with the dimension of organizational support scoring the lowest 2.66±0.81.Age and education level of eldercare providers were predictors of person-centered care level(P0.01 for both).Conclusion The person-centered dementia care in eldercare institutions in Hunan province needs to be improved.Age structure of care providers should be further optimized and education level should be enhanced,thus to improve person-centered dementia care.
