Polyethylene-covred Z-stent for Malignant Esophageal Obstruction and Esophagobronchial Fistula Secondary to Esophageal Carcinoma

Aim:To Prospectively evaluae the clinical efficacy of poyethylene - covered metallic Z - stents in treatment of dysphagia secondary to malignant esophageal obstruction and esophagobronchial fistula for 12 patients with esophageal carcinoma. Materials and methods: 12 patients with dysphagia due to malignant esophgeal obstruction and esophagobronchial Fistula (n = 3) were treaed with polyethylene - covend GianturcoRosch Z - stents. Results: Stent placement wastechnically successful in all patients. Improvemen in dysphagia was achieved in all of the 12 patients. The average dyspyagia score deced is 2 grade. The esophaorespiratory fistula was completely sealed in all the 3 patients. Conclusions: Polyethylene - covered sten is a retatively safe and effective means of long - term polliation in patients withsever malignant esophageal obstruction and esophagobronchial fistula. Reobstruction could be avoided by prevent themucosal hyperplasoa on progressive tumor from ingrowthing. This method should be the main polliative way for patients withmalignant osophageal obatruction and esophagobronchial fistula.
