IgG and IgM antibodies to cytomegalovirus (CMV) and rublla virus (RuV) of gravida in 65 cases with history of birth degects,72 cases with history of spontaneous abortion and 131 normal cases as control were detected. The differences of the titre among three groups were significant(p0 05).CMV-IgG titre in 24 cases with more than one birth defect was higher than in 41 with only one,in the group spontaneous abortion and control group. The positive rates of CMV-IgM in three groups mentioned above were 8.33,4.88 and 2.78% separately, which were 5.46,3.20 and 1.82 times as much as control (1.53%).RuV-IgG titre in 43 cases with more than one spontaneous abortions was significantly higher than in control group(p0 05),but that in 29 with only one spontaneous abortion and in the group of birth defect were not (p0 05).The results suggested that CMV infection in gravida had more possibilities to cause birth defect and RuV cause spontaneous abortion. The state of the former was more serious.
