Mechanical Response of Overpass Bridge Foundation Subjected to Pipe Jacking Side-cross

The mechanical response of overpass foundation caused by pipe jacking side-cross was explored basedon a typical instance. The simplified analysis method for calculating the effect of pipe jacking on adjacent overpassfoundation was deduced as well as the additional internal forces and deformation of the pile foundation were emphaticallyanalyzed,which compared with the 3 D numerical results. The results show that the effect of lage-diameter pipejacking on overpass foundation mainly undergoes three stages including initial stress balance,excavation stressdisturbance and grouting deformation stability. The main influence zone of pipe jacking on lateral pile foundationcloses to plus or minus 45°+φ/2 sliding range of soil,so the influence can be estimated by soil sliding area. Thedisplacement results of numerical calculation are consistent with theoretical results and the difference of maximumdisplacement between numerical results and theoretical calculation is 10.4%,which indicates that the simplifiedanalysis method is feasible. The reinforcement measures are proposed for the obvious disturbed area of the pilefoundation based on analysis results.
