Optimization of Conditions for the Extraction of Melanin from Walnut Husk

[Objective] This study was conducted optimize the conditions for the extraction of melanin from walnut husk. [Method] Melanin was isolated from walnut husk through alkali extraction and acid precipitation, and the factors that may influence the extraction efficiency: temperature, duration, NaOH concentration and solidliquid ratio were set at different levels. [Result] The optimal conditions for the extraction of melanin from walhut husk were temperature of 80℃, extraction duration of 120 min, NaOH concentration of 70 mol/L, and solid-liquid ratio of 1:20. [Conclusion] The optimal conditions for the extraction of melanin from walnut husk determined in the present study will provide references for the development and utilization of natural melanin.
