Inhibitory Effect of Chinese Medicinal Herb Extract on the Pathogen Causing Root Rot Disease of Isatis indigotica Fort

Fusarium solani was confirmed as the main causal agent of Isatis indigotica Fort root rot disease.Inhibitory effect of 123 species of Chinese medicinal herb extracts(CMHE) was tested against the colony growth and conidial germination of F.solani.The results indicated that ninety-nine species of Chinese herbs had significant inhibitory effect against the colony growth with the concentration of 0.01 g/mL.For example,the inhibition ratio of Cortex meliae and Clematis chinensis were over 50%,and Glehnia littoralis reached 100%.One hundred and thirteen species of Chinese herbs had significant inhibitory effect against conidial germination,eleven of them were over 50% inhibition,and the inhibition rates of Glehnia littoralis and Radix achyranthis bidentatae were 100%.These extracts with inhibition rates over 50% were chosen for the secondary screen at the concentration of 0.005g/mL.Glehnia littoralis had 100% inhibitory effect in the second screening tests,while the inhibition ratio of Cortex meliae and Clematis chinensis against colony growth decreased significantly.The inhibition ratio of eleven extracts against coni-dial germination reduced by 21.59%-47.02%.The inhibition rate of Glehnia littoralis was 74.50%,which was the best one with the EC50 3.621 mg/mL.
