Isolation of Antagonistic Endophytes from Dioscorea opposita Thunb. CV. Tiegun against Erwinia carotovora var. carotovora

From the stems of Dioscorea opposita Thunb.CV.Tiegun,32 endophytes were isolated.Based on the inhibition of the growth of Erwinia carotovora var.carotovora,eleven strains had antagonistic activity against the plant pathogen,which was 34.4% of the total strains screened.Four strains,B-2,B-5,B-6 and F-8 had suppression diameters bigger than 10mm,which was 12.5% of the total strains.The biggest diameter of suppression was 15mm.Dyeing the eleven strains having antagonistic activity with Gram staining and endospore staining,we concluded that the eleven strains were all bacteria without spores.Four strains were G+ and seven strains were G-,three strains were coccus type and the rest were bacillus type.
