Study on the Effect of Different Selenium Content on the Silkworm Larval Growth and Inorganic Selenium Transformation

For the development of high selenium containing silkworm powder,this paper investigated the effects of different artificial feeding of inorganic selenium on the growth of silkworm in vivo and the transformation of inorganic selenium into organic selenium.The results showed that when the additiveamount was 5mg/kg,the silkworm larval growth normally and the amount of organic selenium was 1.987mg/kg which was 4.83 folds of no selenium content.When the additive amount was 10mg/kg,the growth of silkworm larval was inhibited to some extent and the organic selenium amount was 3.558mg/kg,which was 8.66 times of no selenium content.The silkworm larval was still drug-fast to inorganic selenium's toxicity when the additive amount was 15mg/kg,and the organic selenium amount was 4.997mg/kg which was 12.16 times of that of the controls.However,when the additive amount was 15mg/kg,the surviving rate of fifth instar silkworm was 0.00.Our results indicates that the best additive concentration of selenium amount was 15mg/kg.
