Effects of Planting Density on Plant Characters of Two Maize Heterotic Populations at Different Developmental Stages

The plant characters of two newly constructed heterotic populations were analyzed at three developmental stages under two high planting densities.The results showed that high planting density decreased the average values of most characters and increased the variation coefficients,which was favorable for improving the result of selection.The density effect of most plant characters varied according to different populations and different developmental stages.The decreased stem diameter and increased ear-height were beneficial to the selection of lodging resistance.
