The reversed medial head of gastrocnemius as a muscle flap to cover the artificial tibial arm in total knee replacement——A report of four cases

Wang Jiarang;Hu Chanming Department of Orthopedics, Hunan People's Hospital
Four casse of total knee arthroplasty after the resection of the tumour of the upper ends of tibia were reported. The defect of the tibia was, ineach case, replaced with a specially designed long tibial arm for the artifici-al knee, and the bare surface of the latter was wholly covered by a muscleflap made of the reversed medial head of the gastrocnemius nearby, Thismuscle flap, together with an artificial fascia, presented an efficient attach-ment to the infrapatellar tendon, and thence the knee extension apparatuswas functionally reconstructed with good recent results.
