Computed tomographic measurement of lower cervical pedicles diameters in Han, Hazakh and Uygur population

Objective To measure and compare the linear parameters of lower cervical pedicles diameters in Han,Hazakh and Uygur population in Xinjiang.Methods The cervical pedicles from C3 to C7 were scanned in 1 mm in 150 individuals(50 Han,50 Hazakh,50 Uygur individuals) via GE light speed 64 layers CT scanner.The parameters were sent into GE Advantage Workstation 4.2 and processed by multiplanar reformation(MPR).All the data above were processed with the software of SPSS 17.0.Results There were significant differences in pedicle height(C3 to C7),pedicle width(C3 to C5),maximal screw length(C3 to C7),pedicle length(C3 to C7),safe angle range of transpedicular screw in transverse plane(C5 to C7) and safe angle rangle of transpedicle screw in sagital plan(C5) in males(P0.05),and in pedicle height(C3 to C7),pedicle width(C3 to C6),maximal screw length(C3 to C7),pedicle length(C3 to C7),safe angle range of transpedicular screw in transverse plane(C6 to C7) and safe angle range of transpedicular screw in sagittal plan(C3,C5 to C7) in females(P0.05) among these three ethnic groups.Conclusion There are some differences in lower cervical pedicles diameters among Han,Hazakh and Uygur population,therefore the individual application should be paid more attention during screw fixation.
