A preliminary study of the etiology,pathogenesis,and therapeutic principles of Yingbing

The term "Yingbing"in traditional Chinese medicine is the collective term for thyroid diseases in modern medicine. Its etiology and pathogenesis are summarized as the following four factors: natural environment and climate,constitution,internal injuries caused by seven emotions,and external injuries. Yingbing are classified into four categories according to the ancient literature: Qiying is similar to simple goiter in Western medicine and is often treated by Kunbusan and Haizaosan; Rouying is similar to thyroid adenoma or cysts by modified Haizao Yuhu Decoction; Yingyong is similar to thyroiditis in Western medicine and is often treated with the principles of soothing the liver,clearing heat,resolving phlegm,and resolving static blood,with incision and drainage performed for patients with the formation of pus and Shengjisan applied topically after pus is expelled; Shiying is similar to thyroid cancer in Western medicine and should be treated by surgical resection as early as possible.
