This article elaborates on the physiological and pathological relationship between Xuanfu / collaterals and radiation-induced pulmonary fibrosis. Besides the commonly known sweat pores,Xuanfu includes the portals of interstices for the entry and exit of gas / liquid; the collaterals are small channels for circulation of qi-blood and fluid. The pathogenesis of radiation-induced pulmonary fibrosis is occlusion of Xuanfu and malnutrition of collaterals. Therefore, boosting qi and nourishing yin should be applied to treat this disease in order to nourish the collaterals, and the occluded Xuanfu should be treated to improve the lung microenvironment.
