Objective: To investigate the identification of body constitution in patients with non- alcoholic fatty liver disease( NAFLD),to analyze the distribution of TCM body constitution of NAFLD,and to perform TCM health management and analyze the effect of intervention. Methods: The clinical data were obtained from 312 patients with NAFLD who were diagnosed in Health Maintenance Outpatient Department, and their body constitution was determined according to the standardized Constitution in Chinese Medicine Questionnaire and standards in Classification and Determination of Constitution in TCM strictly,in combination with observation, listening, interrogation, and pulse- taking. The patients were then given health management or exercise with TCM characteristics and diet care and the therapeutic effect was compared. Results: A total of 312 questionnaires were collected. Among these patients,276( 276 /312,88. 46%) had biased constitution and 36( 36 /312,11. 54%) had normal constitution; among the patients with biased constitution,120( 120 /312,38. 46%) had phlegm- dampness constitution. Among the patients with a type of fatty liver constitution, the proportions of patients with phlegm- dampness and damp- heat constitution were significantly higher than the proportions of patients with other types of constitution. The males had a significantly higher prevalence rate than females. In females, the prevalence rate increased with age,and after they enter the menopausal period, the females had a significantly higher prevalence rate than the males( P 0. 05). After the treatment group was given TCM health management for 2 months, the overall response rate reached 97. 3%; the overall response rate showed no significant difference between the treatment group and the control group( 97. 3% vs96. 1%,P 0. 05). Conclusion: Among the patients with NAFLD,most of them have phlegm- dampness constitution, and the health management with TCM prevention and healthcare measures has a significant effect, comparable to the effect in the control group.
