Effects of traditional Chinese medicine emotional nursing on psychological state and quality of life in patients with refractory peripheral facial paralysis

Objective: To investigate the effects of traditional Chinese medicine( TCM) emotional nursing on the psychological state and quality of life in patients with refractory peripheral facial paralysis. Methods: A total of200 patients with refractory peripheral facial paralysis who were admitted to Department of Acupuncture and Moxibustion in our hospital for the first time from January 2013 to June 2015 were divided into two groups; 106 patients hospitalized from January 2013 to March 2014 were enrolled as observation group and were given TCM emotional nursing combined with routine nursing,and 94 patients hospitalized from April 2014 to June 2015 were enrolled as control group and were given routine nursing. Results: The scores on Self- Rating Anxiety Scale and Self- Rating Depression Scale changed significantly after intervention in both groups and showed significant differences between the two groups( P 0. 05,P 0. 01). The scores on all subscales of the 36- Item Short Form Health Survey except bodily pain and vitality changed significantly after intervention in the observation group and showed significant differences between the two groups( P 0. 01). Conclusion: TCM emotional nursing can reduce anxiety and depression and improve quality of life in patients with refractory peripheral facial paralysis.
