Three Dimensional Nonlinear FEM Analysis on High RockSlope near the Plant of Tianshengqiao -1 Hydropower Station

The slope near the plant of Tianshengqiao - 1 hydropower station is affected by faults, fissures and thecommon plane of folds which all dip outside the slope. Based on 3 - D nonlinear FEM, by using strength reserve methodwhich is used to analyze the stability of the slope by step by step lowering the shear strength of the rock mass to failure,the stability and failure mechanism of the slope under different cases were studied. The research results were successfullyapplied to the design of the slope. The slope was constructed and has withstood the tests of rainstorms of several years.Engineering application indicates that the research results are reliable and the strength reserve method is effective forstability analysis of high rock slope.
