The division of modern history, contemporary history and current history of Hetao is based on the division of historical periods in the People's Republic of China, but has its own peculiarities and differences. The modern history in Hetao is characterized by water conservancy development, the contemporary history by the coexistence and struggle between the Kuomindang and the Communist Party of China, and the current history by progress on the zigzag road and earth-shaking changes in economy and society. During recent 70 years' development, new knowledge is acquired and new aims are achieved, so the history of Hetao can also be divided into several stages.
