Implementation of Infrared Target Detection System Based on FPGA

Infrared vision is widely used in the field of military and civilian surveillance. Automatic target detection can effectively improve efficiency and reduce manual effort. In this paper, an infrared target detection system based on FPGA is realized. First, after evaluating the system's static and dynamic resource requirements, the system hardware architecture with FPGA as the core processor is provided. Subsequently,an automatic target detection image software based on FPGA is introduced. Infrared signals from the image,after undergoing pre-processing such as two-point correction and blind element compensation, are given as background model inputs, and thereafter background modeling is performed using the mixture of Gaussians approach. The established background model can automatically detect the foreground target object and highlight the detected area around the target. The experimental results show that the proposed system can effectively detect infrared targets under bright backgrounds.
