OPERATING DISTANCE ESTIMATE OF IMAGING INFRARED SEEKER

Operating distance estimate of imaging infrared (IIR) seeker with automatic target recognition function is described. The estimation method is nei-her similar to that of non-imaging (point source) IR seeker nor to that of generalthermal imagery. The operating distance of IIR seeker is a parameter to be studied However, the major problems associated with that are still sensibility of system(NETD), atmospheric transmission and signal noise ratio (SNR) needed for recogniting target from rondom noise. Molecular absoption of water (H_2O) is a dominatiVe foctor determinating atmospheric transmission under high tempera-ture and high humidity environment condition. The operating SNR is dependent on the detection probability and false-alarm rate of system. An assumption for de-fining false-alarm rate of IIR seeker is made and a set of formula for estimating Operating distance based on the assumption is derived.Finally, an example used to calculate the operating distance of IIR seeker is given.
