On the Pragmatic Study of Ostensible Invitation in Chinese

Ostensible invitations are one type of ostensible speech acts which are frequently found in daily conversations.This thesis analyzes ostensible invitations according to felicity conditions and represents its properties and strategies.Ostensible invitations are identifiable by characteristics of pretense,mutual recognition,collusion,ambivalence and off-record purpose.Ostensible invitation has two kinds of pragmatics functions:phatic function and instrumental function.
