Tentative Analysis of the Integration of Grammar-Translation Method and Communicative Language Teaching Approach under Chinese EFL Context

The Grammar-Translation Method(GT)is the most time-honored and widely-adopted approach in Chinese EFL teach-ing.As an approach dominating English teaching for such a long period,GT possess some merits that other methods don’t,likeequipping students with solid grammatical knowledge and basic linguistic competence,but it also inevitably has some limitationslike neglecting the actual use of language and cultivation of communicative ability.While with the acceleration of the globalization,Communicative Language Teaching(CLT),which just possesses the very merit of training students’communicative ability,be-comes a new favor in many schools.Therefore it’s pretty feasible for us to discard drawbacks of GT and combine the merits of GTand CLT to facilitate Chinese EFL teaching.
