Comparative Analysis on Doppler Weather Radar Products of two Kinds of Severe Convections in Jiangxi Province

Based on 12 typical events featured by severe convection,we compare the echo characteristics of hail and strong wind with short-time heavy rainfall at seven aspects.The result shows that the average echo height of strong reflectivity from 45 to 55 dBz in thunderstorm with hail or strong wind is 12.6 km,which reaches or even exceeds the-25 ℃ layer and is 5.7 km higher than that with short-time heavy rainfall.Associated with hail and strong wind,the typical echo characteristics include WER(Weak Echo Region) or BWER(Boundary WER),TBSS(Three-Body Scatter Spider),persistent high VIL,mesocyclone,atmosphere with high humidity in low layer and low in high layer and strong vertical wind shear.On the contrary,the typical echo characteristics of short-time heavy rainfall on the Doppler weather radar products turned to be S-shaped on SRM(storm-relative map) velocity from warm advection,eyes-shaped on SRM with low-level jet stream and deep thick layer of humidity.
