Atmospheric Boundary Layer(ABL) Research:from homogeneous to heterogeneous

In this paper,the development of ABL research has been reviewed theoretically and experimentally.Especially the recent researches of ABL over heterogeneous surface are introduced in detail.And the prospect of ABL research has been presented.In 1950's,Monin and Obukhov proposed the theory of Monin-Obukhov similarity which is the basis of modern ABL physics.Then,several field experiments had been carried out which had not only shown many phenomena and laws in ABL,but also validated and developed the theory of Monin-Obukhov similarity.After 1980's,more and more attentions have been paid to the ABL over heterogeneous surface.Some new phenomena have been found,new questions have been proposed,and also some new concepts and methods have been proposed.In the next decade,we should further research on ABL over heterogeneous complex surface and Urban Surface and local prediction of ABL.
