Research Progress in Artificial Feeding of Spodoptera exigua

The general situation and recent progress in the artificial breeding of Spodoptera exigua were reviewed in this paper. Also, the effects of temperature, humidity, feed compositions and feeding techniques on the growth and development of Spodoptera exigua were analyzed. The research data showed that the photoperiod of 20°C-32°C temperature, 75%-90% relative humidity, and 12:12 light-dark ratio was more suitable for the growth and development of Spodoptera exigua. The larvae fed by natural feed cabbage were the best, while artificial feed was inseparable from nutrients such as protein, sugar, lipids, vitamins and inorganic salts, which also needed a small amount of trace elements, vitamins and other substances. Again, the artificial breeding technology of Spodoptera exigua was discussed in the paper.
