MARINE FOSSILS IN NINGBO FORMATION, BEILUN HARBOUR DISTRICT, AND THE GEOLOGICAL SIGNIFICANCE

Chen Junyi (The fifth Geological Team of Zhejiang Province, Ningbo, China,315000)
Ningbo Formation has long been considered to belong to a terrestrial one, but recently a large number of foraminiferal, ostracoda and mollusca fossils have been discovered in it. These fossil date indicate that Ningbo Formation is marine-continental transitional sediment, maybe belonging to tidal zone. The marine-continental transitional facies tends to develop towards fluvial-lacustrine facies in transverse and vertical directions. This paper also discusses the features of seawater environments and the relationship with neotectonic movement.
