MAGNETIC SUSCEPTIBILITY OSCILLATION AND UNSTABLE CLIMATE EVENTS OF CORE NS93-5 FROM SOUTH CHINA SEA

YANG Xiao-qiang 1,2, LI Hua-mei 2, ZHOU Yong-zhang 1 ( 1Zhongshan University,Guangzhou 510275,China; 2Guangzhou Institute of Geochemistry,Chinese Academy of Sciences,Guangzhou 510640, China)
sequence samples and 202 interval samples were selected to study the susceptibility and ARM characteristics of sediments from core NS-93 in the South China Sea. Based on the comprehensive study on δ 18O and mineral records, the following results could be obtained:(1) The susceptibility value was mainly controlled by concentrations of magnetic assemblages, its oscillations coincide with changes of detrital mineral fractions, and inverse to carbonate contents, showing that the dilution by the carbonate mineral is an important factor to the susceptibility oscillations. (2) The high value of susceptibility is consistent with warm events such as D-O, and the low value with stadial and Heinrich events, indicating that the East Asian monsoon and the ocean circulation controlled sediments of core NS-93 during 200 ka.
