Efficacy of cemented hemiarthroplasty for femoral neck fractures in the elderly

Objective To analyze the efficacy of the cemented hemiarthroplasty for the femoral neck fractures in the elderly.Methods Twenty-one patients with femoral neck fractures in our hospital were selected and classified into type Ⅲ(14 cases) and type Ⅳ(7 cases) according to the Garden classification.The cemented hemiarthroplasties were performed on all patients.During a postoperative follow-up period of 6-24 months(average 14 months),all these patients were evaluated by Harris standard.Results The average time of operation was 60 min,and no complications such as neurological injury,vascular injury and periprosthetic fractures occurred.According to Harris standard,16 patients obtained excellent results,and 3 good results with the excellent and good rate being 90.5%.Conclusion For elderly patients with femoral neck fractures,the cemented hemiarthroplasty has satisfactory effects and early ambulation,which can improve the quality of life.
