Treatment of Herbert type B scaphoid fractures by internal fixation with double cannulated screws

Objective To explore the clinical results after treatment of scaphoid fractures by internal fixation with double micro-cannulated screws,and to provide the reference to the clinicl treatment of such fractures.Methods Thirteen patients with scaphoid fractures were subjected to internal fixation with double cannulated screws via the volar approach.Early rehabilitative exercise was taken postoperatively.We recorded the pain of the wrist,the range of motion,grip strength,and the time of bone union.The results were evaluated according to Krimmer wrist score.Results Thirteen patients were all followed up for 12-32 months(mean 15 months).All the fractures were primarily healed,and the cure rate was 100%.The mean bone union time was 6 weeks(4-9 weeks).The mobility of 11 injuried wrists was the same as the normal side.No uncomfortable feeling like pain was recorded.There was 5-10 degrees declining of radial partial and palm flexor in 2 patients,and they felt mild pain when the wrist in palmar flexion.No other complications occurred.According to the Krimmer wrist score,11 patients achieved excellent effect,2 patients good.Conclusion Using the double cannulated screws to treat the scaphoid fractures by internal fixation can get high rate of union and excellent wrist function.It is a good method to treat the scaphoid fractures.
