Water feature simulation and analysis of drought over southwest during 2009-2010

To investigate the water vapor feature during the drought in southwest China,the regional climate model RegCM3 was used to simulate the drought during September 2009 and March 2010 in this paper.By comparing the results with the historical data,the possible causes of the drought were analyzed.The result showed that during the autumn in 2009 to the spring in 2010 the less precipitation,the more evaporation and the less atmospheric precipitation water than normal years are obvious drought features.While the less incoming meridional water vapor transport before December 2009 and the more outcoming zonal water vapor transport after January 2010,all of these might be the direct reasons engendering the drought.Moreover,the stronger Subtropical High in the Western Pacific and the weaker vertical velocity also played important roles during the drought.
